Merrick Community Services

History/Background

Merrick Community Services has been serving the East Side since 1908 when Mrs. H. T. Quinlan founded the Christ Child Society in St. Paul. Since then Merrick Community Services has be working in partnership with Saint Paul’s East Metro. We look forward to continuing to support individuals and families to navigate life transitions, find health and stability, and promote independence.

Strategic Priories

Goal 1: Merrick becomes a vibrant community center through a comprehensive and intentional process that leads to the evolution of existing and development of new programs and services.

Goal 2: Grounded in the legacy of settlement houses, Merrick has strong external relations, and is known as both a provider of quality services as well as an influencer on broader efforts that impact participant lives and create positive community change.

Goal 3: Merrick amplifies and invests in our human capacities and resources to support increased impact.

Goal 4: Merrick utilizes an equity framework in all decision making to address issues of bias and systemic inequity within our organization and ensure we are a welcoming organization.

Goal 5: Merrick has a sustainable business model, leveraging relationships to create a diverse resource portfolio that includes grants, contracts, individual giving, volunteer support, alternative revenue generation, and operational partners.

Annual budget: $2.1M – Foundations, Individual Contributions, Government Grants or Contracts

Skills

Merrick Community Services is seeking board members with skills in the following areas:

  • Board Governance
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Strategic and Business Planning

We are also seeking individuals that have a connection to the East Side of Saint Paul and/or reflect our diverse participants and their experiences, if at all possible.

  • Meeting time and frequency:  6 meetings annually
  • Meeting location: Saint Paul

Expectations

  • Time Expectation: Up to 5 hours/month
  • Financial Contribution Required: Yes, at a level meaningful to the board member.
  • Service on Committee Required: Yes
  • Length of Term: 3 Years
  • Renewable: Yes
  • Does nonprofit carry liability insurance? Yes
