MAVA was founded in 2001. It unites members, conducts research to build capacity, and provides a respected voice for volunteerism. It is nationally recognized for innovation. MAVA is Minnesota’s only statewide, multi-sector alliance of leaders of volunteers. MAVA brings leaders of volunteers together to connect, learn and lead. Its focus over the next few years is to increase its rate of growth by increasing the breadth of its service offerings and expanding its presence outside of the metro area.
Annual Budget: $350,000 – $550,000
Funding Sources: 11% membership fees, 53% contract services, 36% programs, conference fees and products
They are seeking two candidates who are interested in their mission with one or more of the following qualifications:
- Finance and accounting background or interest to serve as Treasurer to assist the Board with financial oversight of the accounting function, which is provided by an outside contractor. The candidate will chair the Board Finance Committee, which is comprised of three other individuals including the current Board Treasurer.
- Fundraising experience or interest, including an individual with corporate marketing and communications experience. Individuals with corporate connections in the Twin Cities who are willing to help MAVA build its network are especially desired.
- Other desired but not required attributes include: persons of color and males and individuals nearing retirement.

Meeting time and frequency: 4th Wednesday, each month, 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Meeting location: at MAVA offices
Time Expectation: Average eight to ten hours per month
Financial Contribution: $75 membership fee plus board members are encouraged to make a “stretch” donation.
Committees: There are five committees.
Length of Term: Two year terms; officers serve for one term.
Renewable: Yes- three consecutive terms
