History
Formerly known as the Jefferson Awards Foundation, Multiplying Good (MG) is a national nonprofit that channels the power of public service as the means to empower individuals with the aim of creating a positive ripple in communities across the country. Founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard, Multiplying Good began as a celebration platform for public service and has expanded to include multiple programs, as outlined below.
Multiplying Good has chapters in 11 regions across the country, offering a powerful continuum of training, activation, and recognition to bring more people into service, amplifying and scaling their efforts. We honor national leaders alongside grassroots heroes and extraordinary young people through four core programs:
• Students In Action, a service-learning and leadership development program, has engaged over 35,000 youth since 2006, giving them confidence in their ability to make a difference as 21st-century empathetic leaders and become the next generation of changemakers.
• Champions, an employee recognition platform, is the largest of its kind in the country. We help organizations, representing a base of 8 million employees, use the power of recognition to inspire individual employees to engage in public service and help build compassionate, caring workplaces.
• Media Partners is our network of media outlets that donate more than $6 million in airtime and print services, reach 100 million Americans, and have honored more than 63,000 grassroots unsung heroes.
• Jefferson Awards, the largest and most prestigious celebration platform for service in America, leverages brand equity to enhance and build this platform, celebrating our 50th anniversary last year.
Strategic Priorities
Our local chapter, Multiplying Good Minnesota, is working on three strategic priorities. First, we are working on raising resources through cultivating individual and institutional giving as well as event fundraising. Second, we are working on generating awareness of our chapter locally through word of mouth, social media and community relationships. Finally, we deliver impact through our Students In Action program. These are the three ways we build our community. Multiplying Good has a national Board of Governors, and our local Minnesota board is advisory in nature and does not have fiduciary duties. For this reason, Multiplying Good Minnesota board members are able to focus exclusively on the three priorities above.
