Theatre in the Round Players

Founded in 1952, Theatre in the Round Players (TRP) is the oldest community theater in the Twin Cities. TRP produces nine shows year-round with performances on weekends. An average of 400 people contribute their time and talents every year — in acting, backstage work, and support services. TRP alumni appear on- and off-Broadway, in film and television, regional theaters, and teaching in colleges and universities and schools throughout the country.

Open auditions are held for every show, attracting an average of 80 people, of which 30 are new to TRP. Its listing of 2,200 actors is often used by theaters, casting agencies, filmmakers, and others. TRP offers training in all aspects of theater, from hands-on learning to classes and workshops. The theatre’s large collections of costumes, props, and set pieces are a major resource for local performing groups, commercial film and video producers, and others. The theatre maintains a paid staff of five positions.

TRP is a membership organization. At an annual meeting, members elect 4 candidates to the volunteer Board of Directors which oversees all operations.

Theatre in the Round Players’ principal source of income is ticket sales. About 75% of its operating budget each year comes from earned income; the rest is donated income.

Skills

Seeking two candidates with a passion for our mission and having the following background and interests:

  • Management/Leadership: Mature judgment and general management and experience to assist the Board with oversight and governance
  • Ability to attend one performance of each production, opening night if possible
  • Willingness to perform Board Member on Duty (BMOD) function usually occurring on a weekend. BMOD includes being responsible for the theater when the building is open to the public (i.e. performances and auditions); for performances, making a curtain speech to the audience and depositing receipts from the performance.
