History/Background
Since 1987, Young Dance has been working toward our mission to transform lives through movement, providing a safe space for young people to grow as individuals and community through embodied self-expression and collaboration. Young Dance operates in three main programs: weekly classes serving 215 youth ages 1-18 annually; a performance company of 25 members, ages 7-18; and community partnerships that engage a broader scope of the Twin Cities’ youth.
Strategic Priories
Young Dance is currently undertaking a move to a permanent home. Our previous model was nomadic, renting studio spaces from other organizations throughout Minneapolis. We found that this model hindered our value of fostering community. As we move into this new space our goals include:
- Growing our weekly class offerings, and providing a community space for families and youth to get to know each other
- Increase student enrollment, thereby increasing our earned income
- Develop new community partnerships near our new St Paul location
- Expand our work in juvenile detention centers from Hennepin County (current partner) to Ramsey county
- Grow our board of directors
Annual budget: $175,000 – Earned Income, Individual Contributions, Government Grants or Contracts
